Description
Indigo covellite from the Leonard Mine in Butte Montana. Sterling silver pendant and chain. Covellite stone is 10mm ground.
Covellite is a rare copper sulfide mineral. This indigo blue mineral is commonly a secondary mineral in limited abundance and although it is not an important ore of copper itself, it is well known to mineral collectors. The mineral is generally found in zones of secondary enrichment of copper sulfide deposits. The premium covellite was found in the Leonard Mine in Butte, Montana. The mine has been closed since 1985, so it is hard stone to find.
